Library Faculty Serving in Professional Organizations

In addition to our Library responsibilities at LSU Health Shreveport, many of our faculty members also represent us regionally and nationally as they serve in professional organizations.  Recently, several of our librarians were elected to offices in these organizations:

Montie’ Dobbins, head of User Access Services, was elected to serve as president of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA).  This organization’s members include health science librarians from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.  Ms. Dobbins will serve as President-Elect for the 2016-2017 year and be installed as President in October 2017.

David Duggar, head of the Library Liaison program, was elected to serve as SCC/MLA’s Chapter Council Alternate Representative to the Medical Library Association.  In this capacity, he will represent the regional chapter on the national level.

Julie Esparza, head of User Education & Outreach, was elected to serve as the South Central Chapter’s nominee for the Medical Library Association’s Nominating Committee.  If selected to serve, she will work with other members of the Nominating Committee to prepare a slate of nominees for the national organization’s next election.

Alexandria (“Lexi”) Brackett, reference librarian, was elected Secretary of the Hospital Library Interest Section of SCC/MLA.  This section promotes the interests of hospital libraries and librarians.  Ms. Brackett will begin serving at the chapter meeting in October.
